Local athlete named Pitcher of Week

Francis Marion University junior left-hander Alyssa Poston has been named the Division II Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week for contests played Feb. 17-23.
Poston, a native of Hartsville, S.C., made three appearances in the circle and went 3-0 with a 0.35 earned run average. In 20.0 innings, she allowed only 15 hits and one run, while striking out 14 batters and issuing only one walk.
Her week included six shutout innings versus 19th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University on the road, seven shutout innings in a complete-game 4-0 victory over Wingate University on Feb. 22, and a complete-game 7-1 win over Wingate on Feb. 23.
For the season, Poston owns a 7-1 mark with a 0.99 ERA and opponents are batting only .181 against her. She has struck out 49 batters in 56.2 innings of work, while walking only six.
Ninth-ranked FMU (14-2) will play a pair of road doubleheaders this week: Thursday at Limestone University and Saturday at Catawba College. Both twinbills will start at 1 p.m.
Poston is a graduate of Hartsville High School and is majoring in healthcare administration.
