Leadership Hartsville parks Little Free Libraries in Hartsville

The Leadership Hartsville Class of 2017 unveiled their class project on Monday, October 30 at a ceremony held at Lawton Park. The class raised funds to install “Fox Den Libraries” in all the Hartsville parks, the Hartsville Soup Kitchen, and Kalmia Gardens. The class also partnered with Burry Bookstore and the Friends of the Hartsville Memorial Library to keep the libraries stocked with books for all readers.
The libraries will contain free books for the community to enjoy. In return, the class hopes that the community will share their books with others. The libraries will also contain information about events happening in the city.
“We couldn’t have made our Fox Den Libraries a reality without the support of our sponsors and the hard work and generosity of our classmates. We all care deeply about the Hartsville community and share a passion for literacy, so the project is very special to all of us,” remarked class member and project leader Krista Burian.
“I’m proud of the class of 2017’s project. They worked hard during the 9-month program and the community has shown a lot of support for the libraries,” said Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce president Quinetta Buterbaugh.
Leadership Hartsville is a 9-month program facilitated by the Hartsville Chamber designed to engage emerging leaders in the many facets of Hartsville and to develop participants’ leadership skills.
The Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based business advocacy organization founded in 1910. The Chamber provides a voice for local businesses, supports economic development, and promotes the vibrant and personal community that makes Hartsville appealing to businesses and residents.
