Lamar softball team shuts out Lake View
By Don Gearhart
Avenging an earlier 8-2 loss to the Lady Wild Gators from Lake View was foremost on the minds of the Lady Silver Foxes from Lamar.
Lamar fashioned a run in the first inning when Ansley Fishel got on base on an error and scored on Emily Johnson’s base hit. Kelly Anderson then singled and Abby McManus was hit by a pitch to load the bases but a pop fly out and strikeout prevented the Lady Silver Foxes from any further scoring.
In the second, Reagan Knotts worked a base-on-balls. With two outs, Johnson was hit by a pitch and Anderson’s third strike could not be handled which loaded the bases again. Not for long, though, because Dakota Melancon singled home two runs and McManus doubled home the third run of the inning.
In the third inning, Hannah Amerson’s fly ball to left field was dropped; moments later she scored when Lauren Godbold doubled for an RBI.
All long, McManus kept the Lady Wild Gators at bay allowing only five base runners over the first five innings. They finally scored in the sixth inning on a lead-off double followed by two singles but McManus kept any further scoring via a strikeout and weak ground ball back to her in the circle for a force out at first base.
In the final inning, McManus retired the side in order, punctuating the victory with two strikeouts to finish the frame.
Each team only recorded five hits apiece in the game but Lamar benefited from a walk and three players being hit by pitches
McManus earned the win giving up the lone run, walking one, and striking out ten batters.
