The Lamar Silver Foxes hosted the Latta Vikings to kick off play against 1A regional opponents. The game started with very little happening offensively. Lamar’s defense shined in this quarter, going as far as to recover a Latta fumble late in the quarter. The second quarter had a big 53-yard carry courtesy of Receiver Tavis Dolford, and then a rushing touchdown from Quarterback Zori Pierce as well as the 2 point conversion. Lamar’s defense continued to be dominant, holding Latta to 0 points in the first half and leaving the score 8-0 going into halftime.

During Halftime, Lamar High School announced its Mr. and Mrs. Silver Fox winners. Mr. Silver Fox went to Grayson Booth, who is also the football team’s kicker. Mrs. Silver Fox went to Amia Windham. Congratulations to both.

The third quarter was pretty quiet, with neither team scoring a touchdown, however, the fourth quarter brought energy back into the game. Latta’s offense finally began to figure out the Silver Foxes defense and marched down field into the red zone, though they were unable to score a touchdown in the drive. On a punt return, Latta fumbled the ball and Lamar was able to recover the ball and run into the endzone for a touchdown. This touchdown was called back by the officials afterwards, much to the dismay of the Silver Foxes. A little bit after this controversial call from the officials, Receiver Tavis Dolford caught a pass and took it to the endzone for a touchdown to put the score at 14-0 after the extra point. Latta responded a bit later with a touchdown of their own but by then it was too late. As the time continued to fall, Lamar’s defensive unit continued to give Latta trouble and stopped the vikings from scoring late in the quarter. Lamar, behind their dominant defense, won their first region game of the season and will look to take on the Green Sea Floyds Trojans next week to try to remain undefeated in region play.
