Lamar native celebrates 99 years

Mrs. Lucille Dukes Virgin, a cherished member of the Lamar community, celebrated her 99th birthday on January 10, 2025, with a heartfelt gathering at the Lamar Outreach Center, located at 528 Cartersville Highway. The event was filled with love, laughter, and warm wishes from family, friends, and local residents.
Born in Lamar, Mrs. Virgin moved to New York in her younger years, where she worked in the garment industry for over 50 years. While in New York, she met her husband, James Virgin, and the two were married in 1956. The couple had one son, James Virgin Jr.. After the death of her husband in 1979, Mrs. Virgil eventually returned to her hometown of Lamar in 1997.
Mrs. Virgin remains an active participant in her church and community, earning the admiration of many for her vitality and wisdom. During her birthday celebration, she offered words of encouragement to those in attendance, saying, “Take good care of yourself. Hard work will get people through just about anything.”
The celebration was made even more special by the participation of children from the Outreach Center. The children presented Mrs. Virgin with handmade birthday cards and sang loving musical tributes in her honor. Their heartfelt contributions highlighted the impact Mrs. Virgin has had across generations.
At 99 years old, Mrs. Virgin’s life story and enduring spirit are an inspiration to all who know her. The community’s outpouring of love and respect during the celebration reflects the deep bonds she has cultivated over the years.
