Darlington County Community Action Agency Head Start Program, in partnership with Darlington County First Steps, held the annual “Week of the Young Child: Investing in Young Children Benefits All” celebration on April 28 at Hartsville’s Byerly Park.
From 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., kids enjoyed games and refreshments while their parents learned about 2017/18 school year Head Start recruitment and early childhood education opportunities for kids aged 3 to 5 in Darlington County.
“It was an excellent turnout. Parents really showed up,” said education coordinator Diane McIver. “We recognize and respect that parents are the first teachers, they are the first base for our children. However, we are here to help the parents promote them further. Without Head Start, some parents get stuck at a level, and that’s what we are here for – to make sure our children get school-ready. We do this by focusing on five essential domains: cognition, language, approaches to learning, physical, and social/emotional.”
