Hartsville Red Foxes baseball preview

By:  Don Gearhart

How do you repeat the season that the Red Foxes had in 2021?   They won the Region, then the Districts.   They followed that up by winning the Lower State Championship over Airport.  The only thing missing was a State Championship in which they fell short against Eastside.  So, how do you repeat that performance?  Well, longtime coach, Tony Gainey, is just the man to make sure those lofty goals are accomplished.  With only four seniors and a complement of ten juniors, the Red Foxes are not without experience.  They also have a freshman and sophomore on the roster.  That sophomore is Jackson Moore whose sweet swing from the left batter’s box is a sight to behold.  The key loss is Cam Cannarella who was the ace of the pitching staff and their offense and defense leader.  He is now the starting center fielder for Clemson University.  Hartsville opens in the Pee Dee Invitational Preseason with a matchup with Cheraw at jimmy White Park on February 24, 2023.  Their first regular season game is March 7 at Camden.  Gainey is assisted by Michael Chapman, Adam Fedewa, and Nic Martin.
