Election period open for Community Action Agency board

The Darlington County Community Action Agency will hold a public election on June 27 2018 for the purpose of filling vacancies on its Board of Commissioners. State law requires that one-third of the board membership consists of representatives of low-income individuals in the county. Up to five positions are available. Nominees need not qualify as low-income themselves but must be able to represent low income individuals and families in the general areas in which they reside. Anyone interested in being placed on the ballot or nominating someone should contact the agency on or before June 20 either in person or by phone. The agency is located at 904 South Fourth Street, Hartsville. The telephone number is 843-332-1135.

The slate of nominees will be available by close of business on June 21 at the agency office, on the agency Facebook page and details about the election will also be announced through local news outlets serving Darlington County.

The on-site elections will be held from 4:00p.m. -6:00p.m. on Wednesday, June 27,2018 for the specific target areas at the following locations:
•Bethel AME Church Center, 1333 South Main Street. Darlington- To elect the person(s) representing the Darlington area.
•Darlington County Community Action Agency, 904 South Fourth Street, Hartsville -To elect the person(s) representing the Hartsville area.
•The Grooms Building, 528 Cartersville Highway, Lamar – To elect the person(s) representing the Lamar area.
•Society Hill Neighborhood Center, 223 Hall Street, Society -To elect the person(s) representing the Society Hill area.
Absentee Voting: Persons from all areas may cast an absentee ballot at the agency office at 904 S. Fourth Street, Hartsville during normal business office hours (8:30a.m. to 5 p.m.) between June 22 and June 26. Absentee ballots will be secured and will not be opened until the issuance of the overall election results at the conclusion of the election process. Persons seeking to vote for a particular target area nominee must show proof of residency in the area.
Low-income residents of the areas listed above are encouraged to vote in this election. However, any resident of the target area may vote. An) questions about eligibility to vote may be addressed to tbe agency.
