The Darlington County School District (DCSD) announced Tuesday that Mellie Driggers, a fifth-grade student at Spaulding Elementary in Lamar, is the winner of the 2015 Holiday Card Art Contest.

Driggers’ textured painting of a decorated home amidst a dreamy winter scene will be featured on the cover of the district’s holiday card.

This year, the contest was held among DCSD students in third, fourth and fifth grades. Ten school winners comprised a list of contest finalists. The DCSD Board of Education will award each school winner with a certificate of recognition.

In addition to Driggers, the other school winners are:
· Jack Williams, Fourth Grade, Thornwell School for the Arts
· Kowen Starling, Third Grade, Washington Street Elementary
· Emmanuel Pendergrass, Fifth Grade, Rosenwald Elementary/Middle
· Destiny McNeil, Fifth Grade, St. John’s Elementary
· Chassidy Leonard, Fifth Grade, North Hartsville Elementary
· Jalaysia Hudson, Fourth Grade, Brockington Elementary Magnet
· Zoey Blair, Fourth Grade, Carolina Elementary
· Jeili Alvarez, Fifth Grade, West Hartsville Elementary
· Shaniah Addison, Fifth Grade, Brunson-Dargan Elementary

As overall district winner, Driggers will receive a certificate of accomplishment, $50 and a packet of the holiday cards featuring her artwork. Driggers’ art teacher, Brandy Driggers, will receive $100 for art supplies for her school.

The Holiday Cart Art Contest rotates amongst grade levels each year. Next year, the contest will be held between sixth, seventh and eighth grades.
