Dr. R. Mac Chapman receives award

Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center and The Medical Group are proud to announce Dr. R. Mac Chapman, FACP, was recently named recipient of the 2014 Laureate Award by the South Carolina Chapter of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Chapman received this prestigious award during the group’s 2014 Awards Program held at Hilton Head Island based on “his distinguished record and continuing contributions to the American College of Physicians and mankind.” The Laureate Award honors those Fellows and Masters of the College who have demonstrated by their interest and conduct in their communities and in the American College of Physicians, an abiding interest in the quality of medical care, medical education and medical research. This is the highest award that can be awarded at the chapter level of the American College of Physicians.

“Dr. Chapman has always been a strong advocate of high quality and safe care for our patients and serves in many leadership capacities as a dedicated member of our medical staff,” said Tim Browne, CEO of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. “We sincerely congratulate him upon receiving this award which so aptly captures the high ideals and professional standards he has always stood for.”

A magna cum laude graduate of Wofford College, Dr. Chapman received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at Richland Memorial Hospital in l991. In 2005, Dr. Chapman joined The Medical Group located on the campus of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center and moved to Hartsville.

He has received numerous awards including the Wofford College Citizenship Award, Outstanding Young Men of America, Service Award as House Staff President and voted Best Doctor in Darlington County by a local citizen survey.

An active member of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Chapman obtained his Fellowship in the College in 2012. For many years, he has actively served on the Executive Council of the SC Chapter of the American College of Physicians.

He has been the chapter’s Treasurer and member of the Scientific Program Committee since 2000. At Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Dr. Chapman chairs the Peer Review Committee, serves as a member of the Board of Trustees, member of the Physician Leadership Council and Physician Advisor for Resource Management. He also serves as a Volunteer Physician with the Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County, Medical Director of Morrell Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Hartsville and Medical Director of McCoy Nursing Home in Bishopville.

Dr. Chapman is the son of Raymond and Retha Chapman, also lifelong residents of Hartsville. He and his wife, Pam, have four children: Meredith, John, Thomas and Andrew. They live on the family farm in the Antioch community, which has been in existence since the 1750s.
