McLeod Health announces the association of Dr. Marcus Vaught with McLeod Family Medicine Center. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Vaught will serve as a faculty member for the McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program. He returns to serve as an instructor where he received part of his education as a physician. As a member of the faculty, Dr. Vaught will be focused on curricular development, ultrasound education, and procedural training for the family medicine residents.

The McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program is a program at McLeod Health designed to train the “physicians of tomorrow” in an effort to increase the availability of family medicine physicians for patients in the Pee Dee and other rural areas of South Carolina.

“I love teaching young doctors — to help raise their confidence in both their medical knowledge and procedural skills, which is why joining the faculty was such a good career opportunity for me,” said Dr. Vaught. “My goal is to train family physicians to have a full scope of practice so they can be a complete provider for their patient’s primary medical needs.”

Dr. Vaught received his medical degree from the USC School of Medicine in Columbia, SC and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program graduating in June 2016. Prior to joining the McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program, he completed a year of training in general surgery residency at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA.
It was a fascination with the workings of the human body that led Dr. Vaught to a career in medicine. “I wanted to make an impact in other people’s lives,” said Dr. Vaught. “Patients give doctors the privilege to know all the details of their health conditions so we can determine the best form of treatment. This was something I really wanted to be a part of. I also found that medicine allowed me to explore the practical aspects of science and technology and how they best could be applied in caring for my patients.”

Born in Brenerton, WA, Dr. Vaught grew up in Columbia, S.C. His wife Stephanie is a medical technologist at McLeod Regional Medical Center. In his spare time, Dr. Vaught enjoys traveling, international missions, technology, and is a Gamecock Football fan.

Dr. Vaught is accepting new patients. For more information, please call the McLeod Family Medicine Center at 843-777-2800.
