DHS Athletic Director anticipates season

By Jamie Norris

Darlington High School Athletic Director

As we embark upon the 2023 Spring Sports season here at Darlington High, anticipation is the key word.  We have for the first season in quite a few seasons, a JV Girls and a JV Boys Soccer team.  The Falcons will also have new head coaches for the boys soccer.  Pierre Brown is taking over our varsity program and Adam Lowe is taking the reins for the jv team.

Coach Kellie Flowers is back at the helm of our girls varsity soccer team aided by her assistant coach Jason Berry who is the girls jv head coach.  The numbers have been up for the Lady Falcons soccer team this season.  Coach Flowers is ready to lead the team in what may shape up to be a very competitive region in 3A.

New to the Falcon coaching staff but not a new Falcon is former All-State tennis player Avery Williamson.  He is reviving the boys tennis team which Darlington High has not been able to field for the past few seasons.

Greg Dolce will be back leading our boys golf team.  He will be in a rebuilding phase this season as he has only one returning golfer, Stuart Lucas.  Coach Dolce has a big task ahead, but as always, he is ready for the challenge.

Girls varsity softball is expected to vie for the region championship this season with a chance to make a deep run in the playoffs.  The Lady Falcons are returning two All-Region players as juniors, Alayna Williamson and Katelyn Church.  Along with their fellow seniors Ary McPhail, Kansas Cassidy and Lynsey Tiller, Coach Randy Bryant is prepping for a great season.

Varsity baseball headed by Joseph Kolodziej is expecting big returns from seniors Shamar Simes, Gage McKenzie, Ashley Avin, Caleb Clark, Bryson Britt, Eric Douglas, Milijah Holt, Ty “Chuck” Keith, Eli Steele, Emmanuel Pendergrass and Chase Watson as they roll into Region 6 – 3A play.  The Falcons are coming off a successful preseason and “anticipate” playing for the region championship as well.

All in all, the spring sports season has “anticipation” written all over it.  I am excited myself to see what spring sports will bring to Darlington High.  The Falcon teams are excited and filled with “anticipation.”  There are great things happening at Darlington High and I for one am grateful that I get to be a part of it as well as in the lives of such great young athletes.  GOD BLESS and GO FALCONS!  #OneDARLINGTON
