DCIT Graphics students win top PICA awards
The Darlington County Institute of Technology’s Graphic Communications department is proud to announce that students were recognized for their excellent work during the Printing Industries of the Carolinas (PICA) competition.
Graphics teacher Gary Hayes has continued to challenge his students to be the best in photography, desktop publishing, videography, and printing.
Each year, students look forward to showcasing their talent against other Graphic Communications students throughout North and South Carolina at the PICA competition.

This competition is just one small part of the Graphics experience for these students.
In addition to entering the PICA Competition, other assignments completed by students in Mr. Hayes’ Graphic Communications class include designing and printing newsletters, calendars, business cards, brochures, and magazine covers.
They also gain proficiency in photography, using software such as PhotoShop and Illustrator, screen-printing, and videography.
Additionally, students print the district Christmas cards and participate in the district’s Art in Business competition.
Creating projects for themselves and working on customer service skills as they adopt teachers on campus are also major components of the graphic communications experience.
Many of the projects including their posters, notepads, illustrations, cups, and shirts are displayed in the hall outside their classroom and around campus throughout other classrooms.
