As they celebrate their 100th Anniversary, the Darlington Country Club (DCC) continues to place a strong focus on cultivating young talent through junior golf initiatives aimed at building both skills and character.
Throughout the summer months, the club will host a seasonal youth clinic supported by Friends of Southern 500 Junior Golf, offering structured instruction for boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18. Sessions will take place weekly on Monday afternoons from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., beginning June 1 and continuing through the end of August. Participants will receive guidance from reigning Southern 500 Golf Invitational champion Jon Weiss Jr. and the club’s general manager and head golf professional, Jim Vernon.
Weiss emphasized that the program goes beyond physical technique. “The clinic will be focused on playing golf with integrity and learning life lessons,” he said, adding that maintaining a positive mindset is key to success both on and off the course.
Instruction will span all aspects of the game, including putting, chipping, full swings, rules comprehension, and sportsmanship. Players will also have opportunities to test their skills in friendly matches during the summer.
Proceeds from the clinic will directly benefit Friends of Southern 500 Junior Golf, a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to the sport while promoting personal development and respect for the game among youth in Darlington and neighboring communities.
In addition to golf-specific training, the club offers broader summer programming that blends athletics with recreation. Youth camps include activities such as tennis, swimming, and creative arts, giving participants a well-rounded experience that extends beyond the fairways.
Club owners Timmy and Nancy Huntley have continually demonstrated a commitment to youth outreach through their support of scholarship opportunities and community partnerships connected to junior golf development.
For more information or to register for these junior golf clinics, interested participants are encouraged to contact the Pro-Shop at (843) 393-0236 or visit the club’s social media pages for the latest updates.
After 100 years, the Darlington Country Club continues to invest in the future by nurturing the next generation of golfers—ensuring that the traditions of the game remain strong for years to come.
As the centennial celebration continues with the Huntleys at the helm, one thing remains clear: the future of golf in Darlington is in very capable—and enthusiastic—hands.
