Darlington Pilot Club creates Caregiver Award
At the Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce Banquet in February, the Pilot Club of Darlignton recognized Patti Balazs and Mary Gannon-Green as recipients of the initial Annual Caregiver Award. These individuals dropped everything in their daily routine several years ago, and one even relocated to Darlington. The sisters did this unselfishly in order to provide care for their aging parents, allowing them to remain at home in their later years. As stated in the nomination form, “They are a beautiful example of siblings working together when the tables have turned, and their parents have needed the children now to care for them.” While they recently lost their precious mother, Bert Gannon, they continue to care for their father, Rocky Gannon, even making sure he doesn’t miss local events where he is honored as a notable veteran.
Pilot International was founded in 1921 by business-minded women in Macon, Georgia. Pilot International’s mission is to influence positive change in communities throughout the world. To do this, we come together in friendship and service, focusing on encouraging brain safety and health and supporting those who care for others. Pilot members across the world recognize members of their local communites who care for others. They often recognize them through awards or Pick-Me-Ups. In support of Pilot’s mission, the Pilot Club of Darlington created this annual Caregivers Award. This year’s winner was selected by the Pilot Club of Darlington. Next year, citizens may nominate worthy persons for this award, and the recipient will be selected by the Pilot Club of Darlington Caregiver Award Committee. Not only does the recipient receive an award, but they also receive a monetary gift to help with expenses incurred with their caregiving responsibilities.
