Darlington Half Marathon 5K and Fun Run may cause some traffic delays

The Darlington Half Marathon 5K and Fun Run will be held at the Darlington Raceway on Saturday, April 30, bringing runners from across the U.S. to the “Track Too Tough to Tame” and downtown Darlington will see them up close and personal as the sneaker-clad group will be running right through the downtown area.

The Darlington Half Marathon, 5K and Fun Run will begin at The Darlington Raceway Saturday at 8:00 a.m. The final mile is a lap around “the track too tough too tame” to cross the finish line. All half marathon finishers will receive a finishers’ medal. Trophies and awards ceremonies will be held in Victory Lane along with food and refreshments following the race. A portion of the proceeds will go to Darlington Shares.

The race is expected to last no more than 5 hours.

According to City Planner Lisa Chalian-Rock, portions of the streets may be closed along the course temporarily to allow groups of runners to pass. The impact of the traffic should be minimal, according to Rock, but residents need to be prepared for delays, especially near the Public Square and the intersection of Broad Street and South Main Streets.

The map above highlights the route, shared by the City of Darlington.
