Darlington County woman charged with murder


On Thursday, July 27, 2023, law enforcement officials apprehended a Darlington County woman, Alison Causey Ward, charging her with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The charges stem from a tragic shooting incident that occurred last month on Joye Road in the Lamar community of Darlington County, South Carolina. According to Sheriff James Hudson, Jr., the arrest came following an intensive investigation conducted jointly by the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

The initial call reporting the incident described a person “laying on the floor deceased,” prompting immediate response from authorities. Subsequently, the investigation led them to Alison Ward, who was identified as a suspect in the case.

The arrest warrant outlines the alleged crime, which took place on the evening of June 29, 2023, around 9:00 pm. At the address 624 Joye Road, a confrontation occurred between Alison Ward and the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed. During this altercation, Ward is accused of committing murder by shooting the victim in the back of the head using a Smith and Wesson 40 caliber pistol. The unfortunate incident apparently transpired during a conversation about dogs.

The arrest followed the accumulation of probable cause through information gathered from various investigative sources. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the motive behind the incident.

Alison Ward is currently held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing to determine her legal status. The Darlington County community and the victim’s family are left in shock and grief, as they await further updates on the case. The sheriff’s office assures the public that they will continue to conduct a thorough investigation to bring justice to the victim and their loved ones.
