County jail staff salutes Correctional Officers Week

May 1-7 is National Correctional Officers Week.
In 1984, President Reagan established the first week of May as National Correctional Officers Week. Here in Darlington County, the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center houses both pre- and post-trial inmates.
Officers go through rigorous training to oversee the care, custody and control of inmates. They are trained in everything from first aid and CPR to self-defense and Taser certification. They work 12-hour shifts, 365 days a year. Correctional officers understand that this job can be dangerous but also rewarding. Next time you see a correctional officer out and about, tell them thank you. From the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, thank you for all the work you do!
