Boyd named LHS Varsity Football Coach

Tyler Boyd, a Lamar native, will take over as Lamar High School’s (LHS) head varsity football coach, the school announced during a press conference Friday afternoon.
Boyd, who currently serves as athletic director and head football coach at Williamsburg Academy in Kingstree, brings 15 years of coaching experience to the Silver Foxes. Boyd, the son of S.C. Football Coaches Hall of Fame member and former longtime LHS coach J.R. Boyd, has plenty of experience with LHS and the football program. A banner with the image of J.R.’s #52 jersey still hangs in the Lamar High School Gymnasium.
Boyd also serves as the head baseball coach at Williamsburg Academy. Prior to his time there, he served as an assistant football and baseball coach at Lee Academy in Bishopville, an assistant baseball coach at Francis Marion University (FMU) and a quarterbacks and defensive backs coach at LHS.
Accolades during his time coaching include SCISA state runners-up finishes in 2024, 2023 and 2021. He was named a SCISA North/South game offensive coordinator in 2017, 2021, 2022 and 2024, and he was named a head coach for the SCISA North/South game in 2023. His baseball team won the Class 2A SCISA state title in 2021, and finished as runners-up in 2023 and 2022.
Boyd holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from FMU. During his time at Francis Marion, Boyd shined for the Patriots’ baseball program. A four-year outfield starter, Boyd earned a spot on the school’s All-Decade Team.
He has experience as a classroom teacher in multiple subjects including History and Physical Education.
