It was once again another eventful week for the three public schools in Darlington County when it comes to baseball and softball.
As the playoffs are getting ready to wrap up Darlington, Hartsville and Lamar were all heavy represented this past week in softball while Lamar was still alive in baseball.
Score Recap (Baseball)
Lamar
The Silver Foxes roller-coaster season is still a go after Lamar defeat Whitmire twice on the road, first winning 5-3 and then 11-0 all on the same night.
The two wins gave Lamar the district championship for the fourth year in a row.
After winning the district championship the Silver Foxes moved on to the upper-state championship where once again they have met up with not one, but two of their region rivals.
In the upper-state championship, Lamar opened up with a 3-2 win over region rival and region champion Lewisville before losing on the road this past Saturday to McBee, another region rival by a score of 7-1.
Score Recap (Softball)
Darlington and Hartsville
The Lady Falcons wrapped up an impressive run in the district, defeating Myrtle Beach for the second time in a week’s time, this time 6-2 to win the District VII championship at home this past week.
With the win Darlington is now playing in the upper-state championship and so far it has not been the best of start.
Kicking off this past Friday, the Lady Falcons lost on road to the Hartsville Lady Red Foxes by a score of 8-2.
Hartsville, like Darlington, captured its district championship with rather ease, blowing out Cane Bay 12-0. It was the second time the Lady Red Foxes had beat Cane Bay, winning 5-2 earlier in the district.
After beating Darlington in the opening round of the lower-state championship, the Lady Red Foxes are now just one win away from going back to the lower-state championship game.
Lamar
Lamar’s softball season came to end in disappointing fashion this past week.
After dominating throughout the first part of the district, making it to the district championship game in the winner’s bracket, Ware Shoals, who the Lady Silver Foxes had beat 9-3 in their opening game of the region, won back to back games over Lamar, costing it the District IV championship.
Going into the game the Lady Silver Foxes needed to win just one game to advance back to the upper-state championship, but instead lost 5-3 in the first game and 11-10 in the second, ending Lamar’s season.
