February is here and a somewhat rare event is about to happen. With the “Blue” Moon on the last day of January, and the next Full Moon on the 2nd day of March, February has no Full Moon. When this occurs it’s “unofficially” called a Black Moon.

Early calendars marked the start of the new year in March, but when the second king of Rome, Numa Pompilius, rose to the throne in 713 BC, he synchronized the calendar to the lunar year. Darlington names finalists for police chief
The City of Darlington has named four finalists for the chief of police position, and residents have a chance to meet them this week at City Hall. The four finalists are Kelvin C. Washington of Hemingway, James Hudson of Hartsville, Kimberly Nelson of Hartsville, and Julius Riley of Cheraw. Black Creek Arts Council in Hartsville hosted a fun charity event last week – a mixology competition where guest barkeeps whipped up custom cocktails for guests. Proceeds from the event benefit arts and community engagement programs at Black Creek.
