Attempted carjack suspect apprehended

On Nov. 23, 2023, just after 11pm, two armed black males approached the victim who was sitting in her vehicle at the Refuel Store located at 5th St. and W. BoBo Newsome Hwy in Hartsville and attempted to take her vehicle. The victim refused and started blowing her horn and the two ran off.

The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office did send photos of the two individuals out to the media soliciting help from the public. As a result of the investigation and from the help of the public, on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, J’quayvias Wingate (seen here) was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and Pointing and presenting a firearm. Case is still under investigation.
