LWV hosts Darlington City Council Candidate Forum

The League of Women Voters of Darlington County is inviting the public to meet all five candidates running for Darlington City Council at a candidate forum scheduled for Thursday, October 16 at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the American Legion Post #13, located at 1753 Harry Byrd Highway in Darlington. The Forum is free and open to the public.

All candidates have been invited in advance to participate in the event and the LWV is allowing them this opportunity to tell the public about their platforms and motivations before casting the voters cast their ballots.

The nonpartisan League of Women Voters has made government transparency its core mission, believing that a functioning democracy requires informed voters who understand the issues and candidates they’re supporting.

The organization has a long track record of facilitating voter engagement through candidate forums and debates at all levels of government, including hosting U.S. presidential debates during the 1970s and 1980s.

The forum hopes the public will hear from candidates running for three ward seats:

Ward 1: Sheila Baccus (incumbent) and Anne Dickey (challenger)

Ward 2: Elaine Reed (incumbent) and Rujon Williams (challenger)

Ward 3: John Segard (incumbent, unopposed)

Regardless of whether attendees are voting in the election, the decisions made by these council members will shape the future direction of the City of Darlington. The candidate forum provides an opportunity to hear directly from those seeking to lead the city about their vision and goals for the community.
