7 get scholarships from Rosenwald group

Kemoni Cannon
The Rosenwald Foundation-Society Hill, under the leadership of its scholarship committee, has awarded $3,500 in college scholarships to seven descendants of Rosenwald High School alumni.
As part of the foundation’s commitment to preserve the legacy of Rosenwald, scholarships are awarded to college-accepted seniors who reside in, and graduated from, a high school in Darlington County. The recipient must be a direct descendant of a former Rosenwald student or attended Rosenwald Elementary Middle School, and entering the freshman year of college.



Qiersten Cannon
Funds for the scholarship are generated through financial gifts from alumni and friends. The annual Taste of Rosenwald also a source of revenue. The foundation is a public charity. Donations are eligible for tax exemption according to guidelines provided by the Internal Revenue Service.



Jada Cofield
A special note of gratitude is extended to members of the foundation’s scholarship committee for their dedication: Eva Brown, Jenelle Davis, Flouncey Dixon, Sam Dixon, Jerline Lowry, scholarship administrator, Bonita McCray, Booker T. McPhail, Shirley Sawyer, Lizzie Williamson and Roosevelt Wallace, scholarship chairman.
The 2019 recipients are:
Kemoni Cannon, a graduate of Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology who will be entering Coastal Carolina University. She is the granddaughter of Willie Mae McCall Cannon, Class of 1971.



Quay Gandy
Qiersten Cannon, a graduate of Hartsville High School who will be entering Francis Marion University. She is the granddaughter of Willie Mae McCall Cannon, Class of 1971.
Jada Coefield, a graduate of Darlington High School who will be entering Florence-Darlington Technical College. She is the granddaughter of Allean Williamson Dolford, Class of 1969.



Caneisha Ings
Quay Gandy, a graduate of Darlington High School. He is the grandson of Mary Squire Charles, Class of 1958.
Caneshia Ings, a graduate of Darlington High School who will be entering Northeastern Technical College. She is the granddaughter or Roger Ings, Class of 1971, and Willie Mae Benjamin Ings, Class of 1971.



Javion James
Javion James, a graduate of Darlington High School who will be entering Florence- Darlington Technical College. He is the grandson of Irene Dixon, Class of 1972.
Jalyn Phillips, a graduate of Mayo who will be entering Howard University. She is the granddaughter of Carrie Mae Millings Lunn, Class of 1963.
