North Industrial gives Starting Kits to DCIT Carpentry/Welding completers
More than a dozen students, who recently completed the carpentry and welding pathways at the Darlington County Institute of Technology (DCIT), got an even more comprehensive head start on their professional careers. North Industrial provided each of the completers with professional starting kits containing various tools used in their respective industries.
The incredibly generous donations from North Industrial will be a boon to the students after graduation this spring.
“It’s just phenomenal. This is certainly going above and beyond for our students,” said Robbie Smith, DCIT director. “We really appreciate their partnership with us and what they do to truly help the students of Darlington County prepare for the workforce.”
Representatives from North Industrial presented the students with the kits at the close of the fall semester. For carpentry completers, it included tools such as a level, speed square, hammer, chalk line, tape measure, carpenter’s apron and more. The welding completers received tools such as a grinder, files, welding hammers, tape measure, wrenches and pliers, and a level. Presenting the tools from North Industrial were Keri Hancock, Vice President Operations; Daniel Johnson, Vice President Business Intelligence/Analytics; Shane Polson, Vice President Machining and Fabrication; and Josh Winburn, Senior Vice President Capital Projects.
“It is such a pleasure being a sponsor of DCIT,” Johnson said. “Here at North Industrial, we prioritize investing in, supporting, and giving back to our local community.”
“At North Industrial, we believe in the importance of investing in our youth because they are the future. It’s inspiring to see so many young people eager to join the workforce, especially in the trades,” Winburn said. “Darlington County does an exceptional job with its program, shaping the next generation of skilled workers. We are proud to partner with them in building a stronger future together.”
Not only did North Industrial provide these tools for the fall completers but also they will gift the spring 2025 completers with them as well.
North Industrial continues to maintain a years-long relationship with career and workforce development initiatives in Darlington County School District. Each year, the company takes paid interns through the district’s Key to Career program and has given financially to DCIT in many other instances particularly in helping to purchase state-of-the-art machinery on which students practice their crafts.
