Nucor, the major sponsor of Harvest Hope’s annual fundraiser dinner, Helping Our People Eat (HOPE) Now, presented a $10,000 check to Harvest Hope during the event on September 15, 2015.

“Harvest Hope could not meet the incredible hunger needs of our Pee Dee neighbors without the continuing generosity of dedicated sponsors like Nucor,” said Denise Holland, CEO of Harvest Hope Food Bank. “Nucor raises this money through their employees and the company matches what they raise. Their gift illustrates their ongoing investment in the well-being of the community.”

“Once again, Nucor has stepped up to answer the call for help and we know hundreds of families in the area will benefit from this donation,” said Penny Watson, inside sales supervisor with Nucor in Darlington. “Nucor supports charities that are local and that know how to stretch our donation. We are a proud supporter of Harvest Hope Food Bank because we know that our donation stays in the local Pee Dee community to help our neighbors at risk of hunger.”

“In addition to Nucor’s contribution, IGA Food Stores, Sonoco, Performance Food Group, Indian Branch United Methodist Church, and many other businesses, organizations and individuals helped to raise a total of $57,000 in one night,” said Holland. “That money will go a long way in serving people across eight counties in the Pee Dee.”

In South Carolina one in five citizens has missed a meal over the past year because they lacked resources to purchase food. Partnerships with businesses like Nucor and donations from private citizens are vital for fighting hunger in South Carolina.

Harvest Hope’s Pee Dee location serves Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Lee, Marlboro and Marion counties. Harvest Hope’s Florence facility has distributed more than three million pounds of food to 233,716 families in fiscal year 2015.
