36th Sweet Potato Festival to be held Oct. 13

Greg Rowles, a local television personality, will emcee and be part of the entertainment at the upcoming S.C. Sweet Potato Festival in Darlington Oct. 13.

Rowles is a former male vocalist of the year from “Star Search.” In fact, the victory was the first in the show’s history that fans voted on their favorite performer. This year Rowles added to his list of titles “Award-Winning Broadcaster” recognized by the National Motorsports Press Association.

You can see Rowles’ work daily on WFXB FOX TV anchoring “Carolina AM,” and “Not the News” daily, in addition to FOX “Racin’ News” weekends.

The 36th S.C. Sweet Potato Festival will be in full swing Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. “on the Square” in historic downtown Darlington. Up to 100 vendors from all over the Southeast will be on hand with crafts, exhibits and more, while others will offer baked goods, fair-style snacks, and of course, sweet potato pies. Kids will enjoy face painting, bounce houses and other games and rides. Plus, the classic car show on Cashua Street is always a popular attraction.

Sponsored by the Pilot Club of Darlington, the opening flag ceremony at 10 a.m. kicks off a full day of entertainment on Center Stage featuring musical talent from around the state. “All of Darlington and the surrounding Pee Dee area look forward to the annual Sweet Potato Festival every fall. It’s a day of fun for all ages,” said Ruth Flowers, Sweet Potato Festival Chair.
