Bobby R. Chapman, Sr. age 81, died Saturday, October 8, 2016. A funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, at Welsh Neck Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Born in Chesterfield County on April 11, 1935, he was the son of the late Willie Russell and Elsie Thomas Chapman. Mr. Chapman served in Korea while in the United States Army. He then went on to work as a deputy with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office for 18 years where he served as Chief Deputy. He was a member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Terry S. Chapman of Society Hill; a son, Bobby R. “Rusty” (Jennie) Chapman, Jr. of Cash; two daughters; Patricia Chapman (Lester) Devine of Society Hill, and Lynne Chapman (Ken) McRae of Dovesville; grandchildren: Jesse Ray “J.R.” (Rachel) Chapman, Thomas E. (Kelley) Horne, Jr. Taylor Nicole Horne, Elizabeth M. McRae, Jackson Paul McRae, Samantha Lynne Devine, Kendall Ruth McRae, and Russell Harris Devine; great grandchildren: Kaley Peninger, and Raylan James Chapman; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Brazell and Emmie Griggs.
The family received friends from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Welsh Neck Baptist Church, 112 Church Street, Society Hill, S.C. 29593.

Brenda Darlene Odom, age 66, died Sunday, October 9, 2016. A graveside service was held on Thursday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. in Swift Creek Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Born on December 24, 1949 in Darlington County, she was the daughter of the late Leona Catoe Atkinson. She worked as a nurse in the medical field, and had worked at Oakhaven Nursing Home for many years. Mrs. Odom enjoyed reading her Bible and doing word puzzles. She always enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth Odom of Hartsville, Michael Odom of Darlington and Tina (Garbriel) Thomas of Florence; grandchildren: Kennie Elizabeth Watford, William Odom, Christen Hill, Tyler Bellamy, and Heather Bellamy; great-grandchildren: Alexis, Aubree, Hunter, Princessa, Amaya, Dominique, and Demitri; her brother, William Elbert (Norma Jean) Catoe of Hartsville; a special friend, Robert Howle; a dear cousin, Joyce Tarte; and her canine companion, “Boo”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeland Odom.

Ernest James Pilgrim, Jr., 83, of Darlington passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in Freedom Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. The family received friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home, and other times at the home.
Mr. Ernest was born on September 6, 1933 in Darlington, S.C. He was the son of the late Ernest J. Pilgrim, Sr. and Beulah Blayton Pilgrim. Mr. Ernest was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Darlington. Mr. Ernest had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his family and was a veteran of the Korean War in the United States Army.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Helen Odom Pilgrim of Darlington; his son, Ernest “Dee” Pilgrim of Darlington; his daughters, Elizabeth Pilgrim Stevens and husband, Leon of Westerville, Ohio, and Melissa Pilgrim Blackwell and husband H.A. of Rock Hill; his grandchildren, Van Johnson, Margaret Chapman and husband, Dewey, Bethany Smith and husband, Joshua, and Preston Stevens; and his great grandchildren, Ansley Chapman, Mackenzie Chapman, Teagan Chapman, LJ Chapman, and Alyssa Johnson; and his beloved cat, George.
Mr. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents listed above; and by his brothers, James Marvin Pilgrim and AM Pilgrim.

Gladys Jean Donald, age 67, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in McLeod Hospital in Florence. A memorial service was held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 14th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home. A time to visit with the family followed the service.
Jean was the daughter of the late Raymond George Donald, Jr. and Polly F. Donald. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina, and graduated from the University of South Carolina. She was a speech pathologist and worked with students at schools in several locations in South Carolina. Jean retired from the Greenville County School System in 2011.
Jean has a fun-loving personality and made people laugh wherever she went. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, making pottery, and traveling. She was a member of the Kalmia Gardens Study Club, the Castalian Book Club, and several bridge clubs. Jean had a multitude of close friends who loved her dearly.
Jean is survived by her sisters, Susan Conlan and Sarah Pope, and her husband, Gerald. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Kelli and Neil Hopkins, Ches and Chris Stepp, Martha and Jason Williams, and David and Daniel Conlan; her great-nieces and nephews, Catherine and Justin King, Christopher and Sarah Stepp, Anthony, Thomas, and Caroline Hopkins, Lane and Harper Williams; and her beloved dog, Kingston.

Rev. Ted R. Windham, 73, went home to Glory on Wednesday October 12, 2016 after a brief illness. Ted was saved in 1967 and God completely changed his life. He was a graduate of Southern Methodist College in Orangeburg, S.C. He pastored for 10 years in South Carolina and Louisiana for the Southern Methodist denomination. In 1979, he founded Victory Baptist Church in Darlington, S.C. He pastored there for 30 years until his retirement. During his 40 years of ministry, he touched countless lives, always sharing the Gospel and Love of Christ. He was a dedicated follower of Christ every moment of every day. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Papa, Pastor, and Friend. He was currently a member of Midway Baptist Church in Darlington.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Saturday October 15, 2016 at First Free Will Baptist Church in Florence, S.C., followed by burial at Philadelphia Church in Oates, S.C. The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday October 14, at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home in Darlington.
He leaves behind his wife, Doris Gainey Windham; a son, Scott Windham (Shannon); a daughter, Leigh Windham Jenkins (Paul); six grandchildren, Kimberly Windham, Bradley Windham, Noah Jenkins, Chloe Jenkins, Hannah Jenkins, and Rebekah Jenkins; and a sister, Isabel Windham Norris.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Windham and Hattie Mae Windham Stewart; brothers, Roy Windham and Charles Windham; sisters, Mildred Parnell, Myrtle Blackwell, Doris Hickman, and Nell Truluck.

Roger Elmore, 63, of Darlington died on Sunday, October 16, 2016.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home and other times at the home, 305 Wells Street, Darlington.
Roger was born on December 17, 1952 to the late D.L. “Pete” and Generose Miller Elmore. He was an avid drag race fan and had a love for older cars.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Elmore of Darlington; his sister, Nancy Horrell of Florence; his nieces, Kristine Goodwin and Hannah Goodwin; his step daughter, Angela Pittman of Laurinburg, N.C.; his step grandchildren, Charles Swain, Christopher Swain, Nicholas Swain, and Angie Swain; four step great grandchildren; and numerous cousins.
