Blackmon was a proud graduate of McColl High School and King’s College in Charlotte, North Carolina. After graduating from college, she moved to Darlington where she met her husband of forty-eight years, Heyward Nelson Blackmon, Sr.
Mrs. Blackmon worked for Wilson Senior Care and its predecessors for over forty years. Known for her dedication and hard work, Mrs. Blackmon often went above and beyond to help the residents that had little money and no family have the funerals that they deserved. Known for her fabulous macaroni and cheese, she would often claim that she really did not know how to cook; that claim was debunked each Sunday by the cleaned plates and satisfied smiles around the table.
Each summer since she was a child, Mrs. Blackmon enjoyed spending time at White Lake, North Carolina. It was a tradition that she maintained until her health no longer allowed.
