Linda “Gail” Green McCown

Linda “Gail” Green McCown of Darlington, SC, passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, after a prolonged illness.

Born in Lancaster, SC, to John Dolphin and Josephine Hallman Green, Gail was the beloved wife of William Brearley McCown III, and mother to Melissa, Betsy and Meredith. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Joann Green Brooksbank and Melissa Green Colvin.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, Billy, Gail is survived by her family, including daughters Melissa (Scott) McCown Saby, Betsy (Jammie) McCown Harris, and Meredith McCown, and four grandchildren: Crayton Scott Saby, William McFarlin Saby, Elizabeth Haynsworth Harris and Dorothy McCown Harris; sister Patricia Green Henderson and brother John Dolphin Green Jr., as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Gail was a 1957 graduate of R.J. Reynolds Highs School in Winston-Salem, N.C. She attended Coker College in Hartsville, S.C. She was a member of Darlington Presbyterian Church, a lover of horses and all animals.

A celebration of life was held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Darlington Presbyterian Church, Pearl Street, Darlington. Burial followed at Grove Hill cemetery on Warley Street in Darlington. The family received friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Belk Funeral Home.

Billy and the girls received friends following the service at the McCown Building, Darlington Presbyterian Church.

Clay Odom

Clayton Cecil Odom, age 43 passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016. A visitation was held from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, December 30th at Belk Funeral Home.

Born April 18, 1973; Clay was the son of Robert “Bobby” Earl Odom, Sr. and Linda Johnson Odom. He worked for Wellman Plastics in Johnsonville. Being an avid sports fan, he enjoyed Gamecock football, NASCAR, and enjoyed following Lamar High School Sports. Clay loved to cook and his philosophy was the spicier the better.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Leigh Odom of Mullins; his children, Maddox and Morgan Odom; his brothers, Robbie (Elizabeth) Odom of Darlington, and Garrett Odom of Myrtle Beach. Also surviving are his nieces, Samantha Odom, Kaitlyn Odom, and Katherine Langley; and his nephews, Justin Odom and Cody (Laura) Langle; his great nephew and niece, Hunter and Harper; and his special aunt, Faye Howle.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
