Early in life he was nicknamed BoJack and was known throughout his early years and working career by that name. BoJack started his working career with the Piggly Wiggly grocery store chain, working in both Charleston and Denmark. He worked for Brooker True Value Hardware Store in Denmark and as the manager of Brooker’s in Bamberg for 32 years. He retired in 1990 and he and Ann moved fulltime to their vacation home in Garden City Beach.

He was a life member of the Ornan Lodge No. 38 of the Grand Lodge Ancient Free Masons of South Carolina where, over the years, he served as Worshipful Master and held other leadership positions. He was a longtime member of the Omar Temple of the Shriners and enjoyed fellowship with the Omar Engineers of Bamberg. He was also a life member of the Lions Club, serving as president of the Bamberg Club in 1990 and was a 20-year member and Tail Twister of the South Strand Club in Garden City Beach.

Wherever he lived, he made civic and professional contributions and he was a faithful member of his churches, consistently serving as usher, deacon, or Sunday school teacher.
