Students awarded scholarships honoring Carraway

High-school students from Darlington and Florence are recipients of the Sgt. Terrence Carraway Memorial Scholarship fund for 2019.

Gracie Epps, a student at Darlington High School, and Jayden Smith, a student at Wilson High School, received the scholarship, presented by the Florence Police Department.

Carraway, a Darlington resident who worked for the Florence Police Department, was killed in an ambush shooting of several officers last year.

Epps will attend Coastal Carolina University; Smith will attend S.C. State University.

“The scholarship was established in January 2019 to honor the life of Sgt. Carraway and continue his passion for the advancement of youth in the Florence and Darlington communities,” a Florence Police Department news release said. “This need- based scholarship will be awarded annually to one recipient from Florence County public high schools and one recipient from Darlington County public high schools.”
