Sheriff warns of telephone scam
Darlington County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently investigating a telephone scam. An individual calling from843-371-5370 identifying himself as Deputy James Marshall will claim the call taker missed jury duty and money must be paid to avoid criminal prosecution.
The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office will not call you in reference to missing jury duty. If a person misses jury duty they will be contacted through mail from the appropriate court. There is not a deputy by the name of James Marshall at the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.
If you receive this telephone call, hang up and do not give any personal information such as a credit card or bank account number, social security number, or address. If you ever receive a telephone call from someone representing themselves as a Darlington County Sheriff’s Deputy and you are unsure if they are Deputy, call 843-398-4501.
