An effort to name part of Hoffmeyer Road for slain police officer Terrence Carraway of Darlington is still ongoing, says his widow Allison.
“It has been passed through the (S.C.) House,” she said. “It went to the Senate Transportation Committee, and they finally passed it. Now it is back at the House (side).”
She said it may be close to final passage.
The resolution asks the state Department of Transportation to name the section of Hoffmeyer Road from the Florence/Darlington county line to the Timmonsville Highway/S.C. 340 the Terrence Carraway Memorial Highway.
All of that section is in Darlington County, although Carraway worked as a sergeant for the Florence Police Department, giving him ties to both counties.
Hoffmeyer was the last road Carraway traveled on when he was shot Oct. 3, 2018, as a gunman ambushed several officers in Florence County. An investigator for the Florence County Sheriff’s Department, Farrah Turner, died from her wounds two weeks later.
