Miss South Carolina Volunteer Pageant making its debut in 2022

A new scholarship pageant is on the horizon in South Carolina. The Miss South Carolina Volunteer pageant will make its debut in the fall, sending its winner to the Miss Volunteer America pageant which will be held in Jackson, Tenn., in the early spring of 2022. A Miss South Carolina Teen Volunteer Pageant will also be held in conjunction with the state pageant along with a Miss South Carolina Volunteer Princess Pals Program. Will Isgett of Darlington, who has long been involved in local pageants, is chairman of media and communications for the new Miss South Carolina Volunteer Pageant. “Bringing the Miss South Carolina Volunteer Pageant to our state is incredibly exciting,” said Ronnetta Griffin, chairman of the board and former Miss South Carolina. “It’s not only the fulfillment of a long term goal, but as a lifelong volunteer, I feel like this marks a point of coming full circle.” The national pageant was founded and is directed by Allison DeMarcus, a former Miss Tennessee, and is a nationwide service-oriented scholarship program that seeks to empower young women across the country through educational scholarships and extraordinary opportunities. Areas of competition for the pageant include interview, talent, fitness and wellness (swimsuit for Miss and physical fitness wear for the teens) evening gown and on-stage question. To become a Miss contestant you must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the state pageant and must not be older than 25 on Dec. 31, 2021. You must also be a high school graduate or equivalent, a medical and legal female, never married and not a parent. You must also be a bona fide South Carolina resident or full-time employee or student, a citizen of the United States and be able to compete in all areas of competition. In order to meet age eligibility requirements to compete in the State Teen Pageant, a contestant must be between 13 and 17 on the first day of the State Pageant in which she competes and must not be older than 17 as of Dec. 31, in the calendar year. She must also be a full-time student, a medical and legal female, never married and not a parent. She must also be a bona fide South Carolina resident or full-time employee or student, a citizen of the United States and be able to compete in all areas of competition. To become a Miss South Carolina Volunteer Princess Pals program you must be between 6-12 years old. Plans are for the state Teen winner to compete at the national level in the near future, according to Jared Hembree, vice-president and co-executive director of the pageant.
