LETTER TO THE EDITOR: ‘God and Jesus Christ have brought me a long way’
A Black History person speaks, writes.
At age 60 and a half, I am proud to be four fathers in me. Three blood-grown sons in Hartsville with family, ages 37, 31, and 30, I think. Two with separate moms. One 20-year-old daughter and a 19-year-old son with mom in Florence.
I’m happy and proud of them. One stepson since he was 4 months old, now in his early 30s, married, working with his family. One godson since the early ’80s. In a wheelchair, married with wife and daughter and son in Hartsville.
I always spent much time with all. Been struggling with sickle cell since age 16. A graduate of Class of 1980 of St. John’s BD, now called DHS. Spent time, traveled, attended churches. Also moved many times. Trying to take responsibility for six people was tough. And getting sick, in and out of McLeod and Carolina Pines in Hartsville.
God and Jesus Christ have brought me a long way. I cry out to Him and all humans to please forgive me for all the wrong I’ve done.
Today, Black History Month rolls by. Still with health problems. Pulling my own weight along with our father God and Jesus Christ. I love everyone. Take care with COVID-19 and other viruses going on. Don’t let life be all about money.
Remember, in God we trust. Keep your heads up and good luck. Also, thanks to my parents, I obeyed God’s Ten Commandments. I’ve done much with no complaints. Forgive me for the wrong words I said.
Johnny Martin,
Darlington
