JoAnne DeWitt

JoAnne was the daughter of the late Theron L. DeWitt and Elma Lee Moore DeWitt.
She graduated from St. John’s High School and then went on to attend and graduate from Columbia College to fulfill her dreams of becoming a teacher.
She taught Language Arts and Creative Writing to students from elementary school to college level. For many years, she wrote educational issues in newspaper editorials and in periodicals.
She was also the writer and producer of the “Brain Game” academic quiz show for high school students.
In the mid 1970 and early 80’s she also had a successful catering business.
In the 1980’s her research on the history of the Pee Dee area of South Carolina and the DeWitt family were responsible for a historical marker that was placed at DeWitt’s Bluff on the Pee Dee River in Florence County.
JoAnne loved to travel, spend time with her family, volunteer and help people in need.
She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Polly DeWitt Hoffmeyer, and her brother, Theron L. DeWitt, Jr.
She is survived by her children Christopher (Astrid) Sharpe and Lawerence Sharpe. Her former husband John Sharpe and her brother Alvin E. (Betty) DeWitt. Also, her three grandchildren.
