James Edward “Cousy” Thomas
James Edward “Cousy’ Thomas was born in Darlington, SC to the late Willie Thomas and Cleola Sawyer Thomas. Educated in Darlington County Schools, James graduated in 1962 from Mayo High School and was their star basketball player.
He was a 1966 honors graduate of Johnson C Smith University, Charlotte NC and a veteran of the US Army. Later he served as president of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Bank, NY and earned advanced degrees from New York University and Columbia University.
James was formerly married to Joan Grant, Florence SC. He entered eternal rest March 22, 2022 in Flushing NY. Left to cherish his memory: son James (Jennifer) Thomas Westchester NY; grandchildren Jessica, James III (“JT”), Jonathan, and Joliene Thomas; brother Lee (Linda) Thomas Riverside CA; sister Shirley L Thomas; niece LayOntra S Thomas Darlington SC and many extended family members.
Memorial services were held on Thursday June 30, 2022 1:00 PM at Florence National Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to Shirley L Thomas, 107 Woodhaven Dr, Darlington SC 29532.
