Hartsville High School: Hunter Thompson

Hunter Thompson, 18, graduating from Hartsville High School:

“My experience at Hartsville High School was a great experience. I enjoyed every minute of it. … My favorite memory from high school – this year, in my (International Baccalaureate) history class, my teacher Ms. Sanders does a Thanksgiving dinner every year and I think it was the most touching part of my senior year to hear all of my friends in one classroom celebrating how thankful we were for what we’ve been given, the opportunities we’ve had. … For those behind me, I would say that high school can seem intimidating, but we’re very fortunate in Darlington County to have the teachers and the resources that we do. … Directly after high school, I’m going to be working at the Darlington County School District arts summer camp as a student assistant. Then I plan to attend college at the University of South Carolina. I’ve been admitted to the Honors College and the School of Music. I recently won the Archibald Rutledge Music Scholarship – I was the only student in this state to win that – I had to compose a piece of music for a small group of instruments and send that in and submit it. … I plan to major in music education. A goal of mine is to somehow make it back to Darlington County to teach music, but I really need to find jobs wherever I can. I’ll always be looking in Darlington County because I love the people here so much. … I’d definitely like to teach high school band.”
