Girls University opens Hartsville location
Girls University, Florence’s first gender-based afterschool academy, was to open their second location in Hartsville Aug. 19.
Partnering with the City of Hartsville Parks and Recreation Department, the second location will utilize the Coach T.B. Thomas Sports Center to continue their mission of introducing girls to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math).
Girls University’s initiative is designed to motivate, inspire and educate girls in the Pee Dee region to become products of success, not society.
Identifying the need to provide girls with specialized enrichment programming combined with an afterschool safe haven provides a unique niche for Girls University.
Recognizing the importance of providing girls with an opportunity to participate in science, technology and engineering fields and a chance for success was the brainchild behind the academy.
Girls University not only aims to provide quality non-traditional afterschool care but is also a place where girls can attend workshops, host birthday parties, receive academic tutoring and mentoring, and have access to speakers from various professions.
Girls University hosted a ribbon cutting Aug. 13 at the Coach T.B. Thomas Sports Center at 701 W. Washington St.
