First Black Creek Literary Festival a success for library

The Darlington Branch Library launched the first Black Creek Literary Festival, a celebration of the written word and reading, on Jan. 12.

The festival, a partnership between the Darlington Branch and Burry Bookstore, featured 15 authors from across the state sharing their insights on writing and discussing their works with visitors.

Those who attended discovered there was something for everyone.

Readers of romance, sci-fi, mystery, inspirational, poetry and nonfiction all found something of interest. Colorful and engaging books for children and their parents could be found in the children’s room.

Authors of stories geared for young adults were at the festival.

A special feature was two author Q&A panels.

The morning session featured five authors answering questions about plot, character development, setting and tone from the audience.

Those who attended the afternoon session found answers to their questions about finding a publisher, editing, marketing, time management and tools of the trade.

“We organized the Black Creek Literary Festival to give the community an opportunity to meet authors from our region,” said Darlington Branch Manager Michelle Wallace, “and learn how to become a published author.

Our plan is to make this an annual event.”
