Georgia-Pacific and the Dixie® Darlington facility announced plans today to construct a 200,000-square-foot warehouse and trailer yard at its Dixie® plate and bowl plant. This $25 million investment is designed to enhance operating efficiency, integrate advanced technologies and elevate customer service.
Approximately 35 jobs will be connected to this warehouse investment, which will be operated by a third party that will partner with the Darlington facility. This latest investment follows a $180 million investment that expanded the facility and brought in state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment that reshaped the Darlington facility as a premier producer of plates and bowls.
“This is an exciting next step in the transformation of our operations here in Darlington that highlights our commitment to our employees, our customers and our community,” said Demetrius Wright, plant director for the Darlington facility. “I want to thank our employees for helping us earn this investment, and I also want to thank our community leaders for all the support they provide us.”
Darlington County Council Chairman Bobby Hudson said, “Georgia-Pacific’s continuous investment is a testimony to an existing industry thriving in Darlington County. We are thrilled to see Georgia-Pacific grow and are excited to partner alongside them.”
Darlington Mayor Curtis Boyd said, “The City of Darlington is excited about the expansion from Georgia-Pacific as they continue to grow and prosper in our city. We’re proud that they are maintaining this as their home. And as Mayor and council, we are more than willing to assist and help in their continued expansion and growth to build a better future for all the residents of Darlington and beyond.”
The warehouse and trailer yard project is expected to start immediately and will occupy space where two unoccupied facility buildings currently stand. It will start operation sometime in 2026.
The Dixie® Darlington plant plays a vital role in the local economy by providing employment to more than 450 individuals and generating an additional 1,163 indirect jobs within the community. The plant produces the well-known Dixie® plates and bowls.
