DHS AA Graduate Spotlight – Hayden Happ

Hayden Happ

Hayden Happ is one of seven Darlington High School Early College Honors Program students set to graduate with his Associate of Arts degree from Florence-Darlington Technical.

Two years ago, when DHS unveiled its Associate of Arts Degree program for qualified Early College Honors Program students, Hayden decided to rise to the challenge and take advantage of this opportunity. While only a high school sophomore, Hayden committed to spend the next two years, including two summers, devoted to a full-time college course load each semester in addition to her other high school classes. His hard work has paid off because with the successful completion of his spring courses, Hayden will walk during Florence-Darlington Technical College’s Spring commencement ceremony in May and then receive both his college degree and high school diploma during Darlington High School’s graduation ceremony on May 27th.

Hayden is all things technology and has left his mark on DHS by becoming the founder and president of the school’s Technology Club. Hayden is a self-professed computer nerd, and that’s just fine by him because he plans on turning his passion for technology into his profession when he attends the University of South Carolina in Columbia this fall. While there, Hayden plans on earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Engineering with plans on eventually working on supercomputers.

Hayden says that Darlington High School’s Early College Honors Program has really made a difference in his academic career. He says that it has given him “a massive advantage right out of high school.” He says, “The credits I’ve earned will put me two years ahead in my 4 years of college. Now, I will be able to have both my undergraduate and master’s degree in the time it takes most people to just get an undergraduate degree.” With an Associate of Arts under his belt in May, we’d say Hayden is well on his way.

Congratulations Hayden Happ!
