DCSD graduates earn $29 million in scholarship

Surpassing last year’s total by more than $6 million, the Darlington County School District (DCSD) Class of 2017 earned just more than $29 million in college scholarships.

This year’s seniors earned $29,004,118 through a combination of state lottery, military, service, private and college-sponsored scholarships. Since 2007, DCSD seniors have earned more than $178 million in scholarships.

Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology graduates led the way with more than $12.04 million in potential college funding. Darlington High School graduates racked up $7.67 million, Hartsville High School seniors collected $6.05 million and Lamar High School graduates accumulated $3.25 million.

Of the $29 million total, $4.47 million came from South Carolina LIFE, HOPE and Palmetto Fellows scholarships.
