Darlington County School District promotes summer reading

Summer reading is about learning to love reading, and it should promote reading widely and voluminously. Students should be allowed to explore their interests and passions in the books they choose to read. Student choice is important!

Darlington County School District will use Accelerated Reader to expand the summer reading choices available to students in grades K-8. This program provides students access to over 150,000 quizzes.

AR Testing is available at all local public libraries during normal hours beginning on June 5 and ending on August 13.

In order to participate in a beginning of the year celebration, students should accumulate the point goal for the grade that they will be attending in the 2017-18 school year:

• K-2 students should accumulate a minimum of 3 AR points.
• 3-5 students should accumulate a minimum of 6 AR points.
• 6-8 students should accumulate a minimum of 9 AR points.
