Prescription Drug Take Back Results

April 28 was National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office was a collection site for anyone wishing to turn in unused medication for proper disposal and a Deputy Sheriff was available from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“We must have the community’s help to fight the opioid epidemic,” stated Sheriff Tony Chavis. “It is vital we let the community know the ways they can help us and turning in unused medication is one way to beat this crisis.”
According Sheriff Chavis, six thousand unused pills were turned in Saturday. The pills ranged from pseudoephedrine, an over the counter decongestant used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine, and Oxycodone, a semi-synthetic opioid used to treat pain. It is important to turn in all unused medications for proper disposal.
A prescription drug take back box is available during normal business hours in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office and on the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Please visit www.darcosc.com/departments/sheriff/drug_take_back_box.php for more information.
