Catherine Templeton unveils welfare system policy

Republican gubernatorial candidate Catherine Templeton recently unveiled her Impose Personal Responsibility and Work Requirements on the Welfare System platform at the Florence County GOP meeting in Florence.
Templeton’s plan would usher in a Conservative Revolution that will make sure “everybody has a little skin in the game,” she explained.

“I believe that if you are an able-bodied person who is not retired, if you want welfare you need to have a little skin in the game. You need to be training. You need to be actively interviewing for jobs. You need to be going to school. Or you don’t get a handout.”

As governor, Catherine Templeton will:

• Change state law so that every taxpayer funded benefit (including food stamps, welfare, and Medicaid) comes with the requirement that the able-bodied recipient must have a job, be in training, or be actively engaged in the hiring process.
End Abuse and Fraud in Welfare:
• Deny benefits to those who intentionally abuse public assistance through fraud.
Drug Test Welfare Recipients:
• Require welfare recipients to undergo mandatory drug testing to receive benefits.
Templeton will continue discussing her positions on a variety of issues that are important to South Carolinians in the coming weeks.
