Catherine Templeton unveils Treat Criminals Like Criminals Policy
Republican gubernatorial candidate Catherine Templeton unveiled her Treat Criminals Like Criminals platform today.
Speaking on the Bob Mclain Show, a popular conservative talk radio program in the Upstate, Templeton said it was time to “treat criminals like criminals,” bring back the firing squad, and jam cell phones in prisons.
“I will lead a major crackdown in the criminal justice system and will restore order and discipline to South Carolina’s prisons,” said Templeton. “Criminals are sent to prison for punishment and reform. I’ll make sure that’s exactly what they get.”
“Under Henry McMaster’s watch, prisoners have been rioting and jumping fences. They use cell phones to get access to drugs and contact criminal cronies,” said Templeton. “When I’m governor, once criminals are put in prison, they will no longer dictate or demand special favor.”
Templeton also called for the revival of the firing squad. “Criminals legally sentenced to death are getting an unofficial reprieve right now as South Carolina goes without the drugs necessary for lethal injection,” Templeton said. “We must make the death penalty swift and final. I will push for legislation allowing firing squads for court-ordered executions. And I will also seek to deny condemned inmates their choice of execution.”
During her time as the head of two state agencies, Templeton fought big labor and won, stopped the Obama Administration from killing South Carolina jobs, called out corruption, and fired state bureaucrats who were wasting taxpayer money. She is equally committed to restoring order to South Carolina’s dysfunctional prison system.
