Joan “Chana” Simon

Joan “Chana” Simon, nee Wolfson, of Philadelphia, PA passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015 following a long illness. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday October 16, at Grove Hill Cemetery, Darlington, S.C., directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Chana was the daughter of the late Rose Riloff Wolfson and the late Isidor Wolfson and the sister of the late Bernice Steinberg, all of Philadelphia.

Chana was a lifelong resident of Philadelphia. She was a piano teacher, artist, and avid gardener. She had a joie de vivre, and her home was a gathering place for family and friends.

She is survived by her three children Maeve Sell (Robert Sargeant) of Fredericksburg, VA, Dyan Cohen (Dr. Alexander Cohen) of Darlington, S.C., and Mark Roth of Binghamton, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Zachary Roth (Hollie Lyko), David Cohen, Virginia Cohen, and Margot Sell. She also leaves behind her longtime partner, Walter Simon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, or a charity of one’s choice.
