Darlington Fire Department installs new sign

The City of Darlington Fire Department closes out 2016 on a high note, with a full staff and a remarkably strong ISO rating, and they’re showing some departmental pride with the addition of a new logo sign mounted on the firehouse at the corner of Wells Street and Orange Street.

“Normally every year we put up a lighted Christmas wreath that Chief Jim Stone’s wife had made, but this year it was kind of messed up and we were trying to fix it. One of my firemen, Johnny Deas, owns Signs Plus, and he suggested we put a sign up there and put lights around that,” explains DFD Chief Pat Cavanaugh.

In less than a week, Deas had taken the Darlington Fire and Rescue patch and replicated that design on a large metal sign, which was affixed to the firehouse’s Orange Street facade on Friday, December 23. The design includes traditional fire and emergency medical symbology, including the Maltese Cross, the Star of Life (a blue six-pointed star with the Rod of Asclepius in the center), ladders, a firefighter’s hat, and the American flag and South Carolina state flag.

Cavanaugh says the reception from the community and DFD members has been very positive, and he hopes the new sign will contribute to departmental pride and morale in the coming new year.
